The OSRC is collaborating with 9 universities on various different projects, the current status of which is given below:

• Karachi University: The OSRC has trained the university's IT faculty. It has also organized Pakistan's first annual symposium on open source. Software Freedom Day activities are now being planned at the university. An open source LAMP stack is being introduced as a credit hour course for IT students.
• Punjab University: FOSSAC, a four-day mega-event was jointly organized by OSRC and the university, at which 6000 people were given training on basic Linux installation and the open source philosophy.
• University of Peshawar: The OSRC conducted Linux installation training workshops for both the faculty and the students.
• University of Balochistan: The OSRC conducted a Linux training workshop for the faculty and final year students.
• University of Engineering, Taxila: This migration plan has been implemented and is running smoothly.
  
• FAST-NU: The OSRC conducted LAMP training workshops for its faculty, IT staff and final year students in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar.
• Balochistan University of Information Technology and Management Sciences: The University served as a venue for 179 participants to be trained in LAMP technologies.
• COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Lahore: A series of workshops and seminars, along with an open source alternative to be deployed as a LAN, is currently in the planning stages. The OSRC has convinced CIIT to use open source in its operations. Another aim is to introduce a Computer Science course related to licensing in order to spread awareness regarding terms of privacy and various OSS licenses.
• NUST-NIIT: The OSRC conducted an advanced training workshop on the Linux kernel for the university. The OSRC and NIIT jointly organized the launching ceremony of SAGE, an open source multi-agent system, and encouraged the developers to participate in AMMAS 2005. The participants won laurels for Pakistan by winning second position in the competition.
  

The OSRC is collaborating with 3 private sector companies on various different projects; the current status is outlined below:

• PING Systems: The OSRC's LAMP training contract aims to strengthen commercial open source ventures in Pakistan.
• Emergen Consulting: The OSRC and Emergen Consulting have jointly provided support in the UAAR migration project, and are planning to conduct specialized OSS trainings in collaboration with IBA and ABM.
• Arpatech: Arpatech has provided training material for the OSRC's LAMP project.

The OSRC has proudly represented Pakistan at various international fora, and formed business linkages between Pakistan and newly emerging markets on many occasions:

• International Open Source Network (IOSN): PSEB's Director Projects attended FOSSAP 2005, a policy-level conference, in Cambodia. The OSRC is currently writing a primer on e-Governance for IOSN's open source series.
  
• Ubuntu, Canonical, South Africa: The OSRC, PSEB and the Free and Open Source Software Foundation of Pakistan (FOSSFP) arranged a business meeting on January 2006 in Lahore. The Chief Executive of the organization, Mr. Mark Shuttleworth, met various people belonging to Pakistan's IT industry. The objective of his visit was to explore the new ideas and interest of both sides in expanding business and to make new contacts in Pakistan. FOSSFP is now managing the Ubuntu chapter in Pakistan.
  
• Tactical Tech, Netherlands: The OSRC participated in Asia Source 2005 in Bangalore, India. Contacts were also established with IOSN, Bella Net, and SAP International. Contacts for regional languages localization were also made by the OSRC.
  
• Center of the International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC): The OSRC's officials have been regularly invited to participate in various Asia OSS Symposium and training workshops, which have been held in China, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand. The Project Manager of the OSRC is a member of the roundtable of the Asia OSS Symposium. The OSRC is working with other Asian countries' representatives to build a regional open source resource center. The CICC conducted training on open source in Pakistan in collaboration with the OSRC, which took place in September 2006. Both are also working together to build a team of master trainers to train users all over Asia. An official from the OSRC was also selected for the Asia OSS master trainers' workshop, which was held in Singapore in September 2006. A total of 22 trainers were selected from the Asia-Pacific region.
• South Asia Partnership (SAP) International, Nepal: The OSRC participated in a Networking for Peace workshop in Kathmandu, Nepal in July 2005. The OSRC is currently analyzing the migration of SAP Pakistan.
  MySQL Users Conference and Training: Two officials from the OSRC were invited to participate in the conference and workshop in California, USA in April 2006.
  
• Conference on Hacking and Security CHASE-2006, 22nd December 2006, Lahore, Pakistan: The OSRC presented details of the initiatives being taken by the OSRC and the Government of Pakistan for the freedom of software and the promotion of open source.
  
• LinuxAsia, 31st January-2nd February 2007, Delhi, India: The roundtable of South Asian countries was chaired by Pakistan. OpenOffice requires help in formulating a team for testing its Urdu version.
  
• 2nd Asia OSS Master Trainers' Workshop, 5-9 February 2007, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: The emphasis of the workshop was on conducting Research and Development (R&D) in open source technologies, which, in turn, can result in greater foreign direct investment in the country.
• 8th Asia OSS Symposium, 13-15 February 2007, Bali, Indonesia: The rector of a state university in Indonesia will contact the OSRC for the translation of OSRC's open source toolkit in the "Bhasa, Indonesia" language. Cambodia is interested in hiring a trainer of open source technologies such as Java from Pakistan. The OSRC is in contact with the Government of Cambodia for further actions in this regard. CICC, a division of Ministry of Trade, Japan has agreed to send two master trainers on an all-expenses-paid trip to Pakistan for specialized open source training, which OSRC is planning to conduct in April 2007.
